En Los Zapatos de Ella (In Her Shoes)
An Installation to Represent Violence Against Women in the State of Guanajuato
Women from all over San Miguel have donated their own shoes for a symbolic art installation on
March 8, 2020. The display of 303 pair of women’s shoes represents the number of homicides
and femicides against women that have occurred in the state of Guanajuato in 2019. The shoes
will be hung from red ribbons on the two facades of the building at the corner of Julian Carillo
amd Margarito Ledesma in Colonia Guadalupe across from Gil’s tienda.
The In Her Shoes (En los Zapatos de Ella) installation will be dedicated on Sunday, March 8 at 4
PM and will include music performed by Jessica Sanchez and Mary Gaby Perales Betancourt,
poetry by Vicky Delgado and the reading aloud of the names and ages of the femicide victims.
Participants are encouraged to gather at 3:00 PM at the gazebo of the Plaza Principal where they
will receive black armbands to show their solidarity with women from around the world. They
will then walk together to the site of the installation.
